APPLE TV: Plex .0.10 Is Available

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/36890-010-beta-release/

know you all have been waiting. We haven’t been sitting still, we have done a lot of changes in 0.10. Here we go, this is the official thread for the 0.10 beta series. I hope we can get through the BETA phase pretty fast so we can get a new stable build out. But also, so much have changed.

Highlights of the release

Full myPlex Support – view your myPlex queue or Friend’s shared server
Top Shelf is now configurable – You can choose which Plex Media Server, then the Section, and Recently Added or OnDeck – the posters are added to the shelf for easy selection
Badges! Grid and Bookshelf view now sport badges!
DirectPlay Support – now works on the ATV client. Avoid transcoding! Save the Planet!
Directories are now loaded asynchronously. That means that you will see a nice spinner while waiting for the directory to load
Memory leaks galore fixed – more stable, particularly on media playback
Many annoying bug fixes – more useable. The UI is becoming more consistent, reliable and snappy!
Added settings for subtitle size and audio boost
Fixes capability settings on AAC. The ATV only supports 2 channels AAC.
Fixes where you couldn’t disable DTS and AC3 support under 4.4.4
Tons of fixes to the main menu where categories should show up faster and more reliably
Correctly order Channel, Search and Queue in the main menu

Supported AppleTV Firmware

This release has been tested on FW 4.3 and 4,4. Previous firmware are not supported, As always, back-up your shah blobs with Tiny Umbrella – http://thefirmwareum….com/p/faq.html

Known issues

Some high profile H264 MKV’s will not play back on ATV. There seem to be something that the transcoder does here that is not working out for the ATV. We will look into it.
Badges in the bookcase doesn’t work correctly
We have in some cases seen a serious issue with network connectivity disappearing from the ATV. But we haven’t been able to say for certain it’s because of plex-atv, it might be the jailbreak for 4.4.4 instead.

Unboxing: Nintendo 3DS Hand Grip

Nerd Tech Review: Apple TV (2 Gen)

Apple TV (2 Gen) Non-Jailbroken

OS: 4.4.4

Price: 99.00

Exterior: Right off we where impressed with the size of the Apple TV, this unit was small and very easy to hide in my entertainment center. The Apple TV is a small black box with a glossy black sides.

Remote: The Apple TV comes with a very small and slim line remote, its not very easy to use when you need to type in account info or looking for an extended movie title. Downside to the remote being so small it is very easy to lose in the couch or in the bed at night. On the upside if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone you can download a small FREE app called Remote that will allow you to type and control the Apple TV way easier.

Connections: The Apple TV has 1 Power Port, 1 HDMI, 1 Micro USB Port (Restore Only), 1 Optical Port, and 1 Ethernet. Port,

Head Nerd Thoughts: First look, we are very pleased with the aesthetics. the unit is small and easy to use. The unit has full compatibility with iOS devices letting you airplay your media on your iOS device to your TV and with the option to Mirror, we think this product will start to find its way in to more and more offices and demo locations. There are a few draw backs to this device we found first you are limited to only iTunes content or Netflix, however you can stream media content from your computer to your Apple TV but it must be compatible with iTunes and be in a iTunes format. Making 3rd party videos you can get for free or at a small fee off the web unable to play on your Apple TV. Another down side to this product is that it has a max resolution of  720p which we have seen other devices like the Roku be able to do a higher resolution at a lower or same cost. So in our option if you are a house full of apple product then this is the only way to go, but be warned on it’s limited function with out jailbreaking it witch is our next step so look out for that review coming soon.

Nerd Tech Review: SwitchEasy CANVAS Case for Apple iPad 2

SwitchEasy CANVAS Case for Apple iPad 2

Company Website:

http://www.switcheasy.com/product.php?product=CANVAS_iPad2

Exterior: This case is designed specifically for the iPad 2. The stand can hold your iPad horizontally hands free in  3 different angles. It is also not so heavy it becomes a hindrance while holding but still gives you the protection that you need with little bulk added to the device. Like the Apple Smart Cover this case has the auto on and off.

Interior: The soft interior of the case protects your iPad from scratches. Your iPad will lock into the sturdy plastic case securely while not distracting from the natural beauty of the device. The unit is a very tight fit so having a back protector like Zagg may cause issues fitting it into the case.

Head Nerd Thoughts: I have worked with a lot of cases and have not found a case that was as nice as this one. I love the auto on / off feature not many cases today offer this. On a sad note I found my self with a issues with the case claps being hard to to use, but when I contacted the company about this I was asked where I bought it from and I answered Amazon.com the phone support told me they give no warranty on items not purchased form them. This is unacceptable, considering it was purchased through such a major supplier. Hence the 3 glasses rating.

Nerd Tech Review: Targus Versavu 360 Degrees Rotating Stand Case for Apple iPad 2

Targus Versavu 360 Degrees Rotating Stand Case for Apple iPad 2

Exterior: This case is designed specifically for the iPad 2. This case features a full 360 degree rotating mechanism that frames and displays the Apple logo beautifully. The stand can hold your iPad vertically or horizontally hands free and 2 different angles. It is also not so heavy it becomes a hindrance while holding.

Interior: The soft interior of the Targus case comes in a nice light blue and protects your iPad from scratches. Your iPad will lock into the sturdy plastic case securely while not distracting from the natural beauty of the sleek Apple design and provide 360 degrees of rotation.

Head Nerd Thoughts: I have gone through many cases to find one that works as well as this Targus 360. No other case has the aesthetic appeal and functionality. If you have an iPad, you want people to know you have one and Targus understood that when designing this case and took the opportunity to display the apple logo rather than cover it up. If you want protection from falls and looks, this provides a great balance.
